Two methods, two jobs
High-performance liquid chromatography separates components in a sample so a detector can estimate relative peak area. Mass spectrometry reports mass-to-charge information that supports molecular identity. Used together, they are the core of most research-peptide release packages.
Independent testing matters because it sits outside production. A third-party chromatogram is not a marketing graphic; it is a record that a named lot was evaluated under a stated method. Keep the PDF with the lot. If a later assay behaves unexpectedly, the first question is whether the vial in the freezer is the lot on the COA.
What “≥99%” usually means
Reported HPLC purity is typically an area-percent of the main peak under the conditions used. It is not a clinical specification, and it is not a guarantee that every possible impurity is visible at every wavelength. Treat it as a lot-release snapshot, then store and handle the material so that snapshot still describes what you pipette months later.
- Match vial labels to COA lot numbers before reconstitution
- Archive the chromatogram with your study notebook
- Do not mix lots in a single stock without recording both identifiers
